Welcome and thank you for visiting the NNM Diabetes website. As the parent of a child with type 1 diabetes in Northern New Mexico, my hope is to give a voice to a large territory with many families who are touched in some way by diabetes, to provide an avenue of communication with all of them, and a way to create a support network to serve the needs of these families.

It's all very new. To start off with, I am going to share what I really want and what I can offer in the way of positive action towards creating a community of support in Northern New Mexico for families similarly touched by diabetes. I invite you to join in! Click here to email your ideas today.
The Start
When something doesn't yet exist, it's good to find a place to start. This is what we can offer:
- The NNM Support group works with the JDRF T.O.F.U.N. network to bring families together who have children with diabetes.
- We offer monthly meetings so that the children can be around other children who are "just like them," and so that parents can be around other parents who have to deal with the same issues
- We offer regular events every other month that families with children with diabetes can participate in together (alternating with the JDRF Albuquerque activities)
- We bring educational topics to our support group meetings
- We rotate meeting spaces to accommodate families in Espanola, Santa Fe and Los Alamos.
Discussion
Sharing with others who know what it's like to have a child with diabetes is a great relief. Just sharing the woes and the funny episodes of helping our children cope with the life altering diagnosis of diabetes relieves the pressure of having to deal with it on our own. My goal is offer as many venues for discussion as possible:

Future ideas/plans
- Organize regular monthly or bi-monthly events and get-togethers for the NNM area
- Create a regular newsletter online and a blogspace
